Personal StatementMy interest in Emergency Medical Services dates back to my senior year of high school, where I was given an opportunity to take a class called Emergency Medical Responder or more commonly known as First Responder. If I passed the class I was then allowed to do ride time with Manatee County EMS. I fell in love with this career on my first call and I knew that this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
When I began Emergency Medical Technician school at MTI I had the opportunity to be exposed to a new range of skills needed to work for Emergency Medical Services, which reinforced and solidified my intense interest in EMS. I've also had the opportunity to do clinicals in a number of hospitals in the Emergency Department and they have been both enjoyable and enlightening, providing me with a new and different perspective on the Emergency Care. In the realm of Emergency Medical Services, I have developed a special interest in Trauma and have even been taking the steps toward becoming a flight medic. I would be considered a “trauma junkie”. I love the adrenalin one gets when going to a true emergency, knowing that what I do or don’t know could potentially save someone’s life. I recently graduated from Emergency Medical Technician school at Manatee Technical Institute at the top of the class. I am currently enrolled in Paramedic school scheduled to start in August. . I have set many goals for myself. My short term goals are to attend and graduate from Paramedic school and get hired for Manatee County EMS. Soon after being hired I would like to become a charge-medic, which means when I’m on the ambulance I’m in charge of it. I would make the difficult choices when needed. While working I would like to continue my education and complete all the requirements for becoming a flight medic. My longer term goals include actually becoming a flight medic, and I would love to work for Bayflite. After gaining experience as a flight medic I would like to move to New York City and work as a flight medic in the big apple! I would also like to study return to school and study cardiology, possibly becoming a cardiologist. |
